AND THE PEOPLE

Filmed during the Covid-19 lockdown, ‘And the People’ combines readings in 10 languages with user-generated content from over 20 countries to tell a story of resilience and the power of humanity to join together, even whilst separated. From different cultures, ethnicities, ages, abilities, and across the gender spectrum, it weaves a rich tapestry of life in the age of isolation.

Inspired by Kitty O’Meara’s viral poem ‘In the Time of Pandemic’. The film champions solidarity in the age of isolation and raising funds for vulnerable women and girls during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Filmmakers Julia Ngeow and Marion Bergin were just two strangers on opposite sides of the Atlantic touched by Kitty’s poem. Marion, in isolation in Dublin, Julia, on lock-down in New York, both reached out to Kitty (Wisconsin, USA) with a similar idea. Kitty suggested a collaboration, and the two met online and the team was born.
